To some extent, mixed media is a matter of trial and error. Acrylics with watercolour is manageable. Line and Wash (cf Line & Wash) will automatically set up a contrast. Others are : Paint & Pastel, Watercolour & Pastel, Gouache & Pastel, Oil & Egg Tempera.
