Lifting Out

Removing paint from the paper (cf Corrections) is a watercolour technique in its own right and can be used to great effect in order to i) soften edges, ii) diffuse iii) modify colour and iv) create those highlights which can not be reserved. However, certain colours such as sap green, alizarin crimson, Winsor blue act similar to dyes and stain the paper.
