The horizon on a painting is a horizontal line drawn across to represent the eye level and to which all perspective lines will converge to one or more vanishing points. However, in reality, the horizon may be identical to the eye level when viewing a lake scene with mountains in the distance but in other cases the horizon may be masked by trees, buildings and nearby hills.
